Information on The Arc's Supported Employment Program

The community has a right to know the qualifications of The Arc's Supported Employment Staff and also detailed information about our track record in providing this important service. To provide this information we have compiled this Information Sheet so it can be shared with new referrals, families, service providers or anyone who wants information about our Supported Employment Services. (Also, please refer to the Supported Employment Handbook for additional information).

The Arc of Amador and Calaveras initiated Supported Employment Services in 1987. We were one of the first programs in the state to offer this type of service to people with developmental disabilities. Our Supported Employment Service has always emphasized individual placement. We do not offer work on crews through SEP (although this type of work is offered through our Community Service component).

The following facts are to provide you with information about our ability to deliver top quality SEP Services:

  1. The Arc's Management Team has well over 100 years of experience collectively in providing vocational services to people with developmental disabilities.

  2. The Arc's Executive Director has been with the organization since 1989 and has been a Certified Vocational Evaluator for the past 25 years.

  3. The Arc's Vocational Coordinator has 17 years of experience in placing people with developmental disabilities in jobs. She has been with The Arc since 2001 has attended a variety of trainings on job placement, job coaching, advocacy, benefits retention, transition planning, and team building.

  4. The two primary Job Coaches at The Arc have a combined 15 years experience in vocational programming for people with developmental disabilities. They have attended trainings in benefits retention, job coaching, individual program planning, advocacy, working with older adults, positive behavior techniques, safety, transition planning, and creative communication techniques.

  5. The Arc has placed several hundred people in Supported Employment Individual Placement positions since 1987. We have placed more people in more jobs than any other program in the "Mountain" counties of Valley Mountain Regional Center.

  6. We currently have between 30 and 35 people working in Individual Placement jobs throughout the year.

  7. 90% of the people we have placed have retained their jobs for a year or more (data from the last three years).

  8. Please call Ileshia Knigge at 209-267-5978 (#31) to secure a copy of our Supported Employment Program handbook.
